The Old Town Sportsman Discovery 119 Solo open canoe is a short lightweight versatile touring canoe that can tick all the boxes. This open canoe style hull has one major difference to all other solo open canoes, the Sportsman Discovery 119 Solo comes as standard with an adjustable kayak style seat with backrest and footrests. This brilliant design gives a protected kayak style comfortable feel to a solo open canoe while retaining the stability and capacity of a solo canoe. The kayak style flex seat allows paddlers to stay comfortable for a full days paddling no matter if you like to paddle with a twin bladed kayak style paddle or a single blade traditional canoe style paddle.
The hull shape of the Sportsman Discovery 119 solo is a shallow arch with moderate rocker, this allows for a great blend of on the water paddle performance and stability. The moderate rocker gives good manoeuvrability without compromising the straight line tracking and efficiency of the boat. The shallow arch hull shape with straight sides and the position of the kayak style seat give a protected feeling while allowing the paddler to gain confidence quickly in the overall stability.
The Sportsman Discovery 119 is feature packed, the seating system has a comfortable base pad made from thermoformed closed cell foam with channels directing water to drain holes and provide superb ventilation. The backrest of the flex seating system has an adjustable recline angle to provide support no matter what paddle stroke you are choosing. Adjustable foot pegs give the paddler the ability to get comfortable and gain the best drive through the paddle to make the Sportsman Discovery 119 as efficient as possible.
For paddlers that not only like a bit of touring paddling but like to do some fishing the Sportsman Discovery 119 has 2 forward flush mounted rod holders built into the seat arm rests, these are ideal for either changing lures more comfortably or relaxing waiting for a bite. There are also 2 flush mounted rear facing rod holders perfect for trolling or for keeping your rods out of the way when transporting them to your fishing spot.
The Sportsman Discovery offers great stability and carry capacity so no matter if you are fishing and carrying all the kit you need or doing some touring/weekend expeditions you won't be short of space or lack confidence on the water.
