The Swift Canoes Algonquin 16 is a super lightweight 16ft open canoe ideal for fresh water river tripping or day paddles. The arch shaped symmetrical hull design offers effortless forwards paddling, with easy on the water handling.

The slightly higher free-board offers a confidence inspiring ride and ensures most paddlers are able to develop, this makes it ideal for not only paddlers who have some experience but for those looking to start their paddling journey. Thanks to the symmetrical hull shape paddlers can paddle this easily tandem, the best way of doing this would be using the front seat facing the back seat to re-trim the Algonquin 16 making for a much easier paddle. Minimal 1" rocker at both the bow and stern makes the Algonquin a perfect choice for flat water touring style paddling or efficient multi-day tripping.

While many see the Swift Canoes Algonquin 16 as an entry level only canoe designed for those just starting out paddling, however in the right hands of an experienced paddler the Algonquin is a very capable lightweight open canoe.

The Algonquin 16 is not a standard stock UK Swift Canoe meaning this is a custom order lightweight open canoe. This allows paddlers to spec their Algonquin 16 to their dream spec in everything from the choice of laminate (Kevlar Fusion, Expedition Kevlar Lite, Carbon Fusion or Expedition Kevlar), colour, interior construction, gunwales etc. 

Kevlar Fusion is the most popular material and what we use as the UKs standard stock laminate construction. One of the reasons for this is it offers the best strength to weight ratio. Kevlar Fusion canoes are all made with a urethane resin system for great laminate durability and longevity, as well as a think UV shield external layer. The hull construction has an exterior layer of polyester with an S-Glass and Kevlar cloth layering a sandwich with a central durable foam cored ribbing system. The laminate is fused together with a high impact yet flexible urethane acrylate resin, injected during high pressure infusion process this helps to produces the optimal dispersion and laminate consistency. Based on a laminate canoes constructions Kevlar Fusion is a popular material thanks to it offering great abrasion and impact resistance. Swift have developed the UV shield exterior to replace the older style gel coat layer, this UV shield reduces the impact of UV on Swift laminates and also reduces the weight slightly over gel coat. The UV shield adds some scratch resistance to the hull, while scratches are inevitable in any canoe and will still be visible initially, after some 303 aerospace protectant being applied they are much less visible, with deeper scratches are protected. As with all laminate boat, a single application of this protectant will only last for a couple of trips, but can then be re-applied.

Keeping the gunwales to the lightest option possible sees 99.9% of Swift Canoes using their wonderful Carbon Kevlar Trim. Not only does this make a Swift Canoe one of the lightest canoes on the market but Swift also use their own very unique process that allows them to infuse the canoe gunwales to the hull as one piece making a bond between the hull and gunwales. This carbon kevlar trim is foam-cored, maintenance free keeping things super lightweight.
