A Great All Round Canoe

The Old Town Discovery 169 is one of the most well know open canoes that is perfect for all round, general purpose paddling. Being a loved option with outdoor education centres, hire operators, clubs and schools who run the D of E award the Discovery 169 has been put through its paces and come out on top over and over again. This canoe is stable but still allows the paddler to gain great levels of control no matter if they are learning or an experienced paddler. Its moderate rocker ensures that the 169 can turn, but also hold a line when on a flat river. This same rocker also allows this canoe to take on some mild grade white water as well.

Constructed from triple-layer plastic the Old Town Discovery 169 is rugged and robust making it perfect for tough environments and daily use. The internal outfitting has 2 Ash wood webbed seats which are comfortable for a full day paddling on the water. An ash wood Yoke & thwart match the varnished finish of the seats. Built in deck end plate carry handles at either end make portaging and car topping with 2 people far easier - though we do recommend a trolley for longer portages and walks to the water.
