The Old Town Discovery 158 is potentially one of the most well known Open Canoes and for good reason. Most paddlers will have paddled a Discovery at some point, be it at a club or hire / activity centre. Thanks to the Discovery 158s triple-layer Polyethylene construction it has a robust, durable build quality allowing these canoes to handle pretty much anything you throw at it. The hull shape has a shallow arch that flattens towards the middle which offers superb stability and tracking on the water, while the moderate rocker gives an agile feel to ensure turning is pretty easy.

The forgiving nature and predictable on the water feel makes the Old Town Discovery 158 feel safe and reliable for tandem paddling, while at the same time giving that responsive and agile performance.

Fitted as standard with 2 wood webbed seats that are ideal for a comfortable day of paddling. The yoke & thwart both made from ash wood with a varnished finish give great rigidity to the canoe, while front and rear deck end plate style carrying handles make loading, unloading and portaging easy with 2 people.

The large internal space and overall carry capacity means that if you want to use the Old Town Discovery 158 as a family touring canoe for day trips or as a tandem canoe loaded up for weekend expeditions this is no problem. If you need more space however for either more paddlers or more kit to be carried over longer distances then its worth looking at the Old Town Discovery 169.
