The Old Town Discovery Sport 15 SS has long been one of the most popular square stern open canoes on the market. The SS in Old Town Discovery Sport 15 SS stands for Square Stern. This is the flat section at the rear of the boat that is specifically designed to have a small petrol or electric outboard motor clamped to it securely. There is plenty of space to store a battery or small fuel tank and still leave room for several passengers. Indeed the Discovery Sport 15 SS has 3 full seats and a carrying capacity of close to 400kg's so you're not likely to run out or space very quickly at all.

Constructed from hard-wearing three-layer polyethylene, the Discovery Sport 15 SS is much sturdier than some other models of square stern canoe, it retains its' shape when loaded and on the water and can take the normal wear and tear you get moving a canoe on and off the water with no problem.

The Old Town Discovery Sport 15 SS is a wide open canoe but it can still be car topped and carried on a roofrack, although a trailer does make things a whole lot easier. Moving this canoe to the water is also possible by hand thanks to the comfortable and well-placed carrying handles but a canoe trolley is a great addition and may well enhance your enjoyment both on and off the water.

Other open canoes can be powered by a small outboard motor using a transom motor mount that clamps to the gunwales of your canoe with the engine then sitting over the side.
