Swift Canoes Prospector 14
A Superb Lightweight Laminate Solo Canoe
The Prospector 14 canoe in the Swift Canoe Prospector range is real multi-purpose solo boat, with plenty of volume it suits a big range of paddler shapes and sizes. Keeping the traditional style of Prospector canoes with a rounded chine area and a lot of tumblehome, this allows this solo canoe to be heeled right over for a comfortable kneeling paddle, or to be paddled in a sat upright seated position and not feel like you are reaching miles over the gunwale to get to the water. This versatile boat will allow larger paddlers to get into a canoe well and still have room with the larger weight capacity to carry some kit on extended trips. The Prospector 14 is the ideal canoe for paddlers looking to trip, fish, do some photography or just go paddling. At only 14ft this canoe tracks well and when loaded up tracks even better, even in the wind. The Prospector 14 offer great manoeuvrability especially when heeled over, and give the feel of a sleek high-efficiency hull when out on the water.
This canoe is ideal as a traditional open Canadian canoe however it also offers the versatility of being able to accommodate being used more in the style of a pack boat with a kayak paddle. This enables paddlers wanting to travel further to be slightly more quicker or more efficient using a kayak paddle in a pack boat style seated position.
The Prospector 14 has a classic outfitting spec including a lovely contoured Cherry Wood webbed seat as well as fantastic looking Cherry Wood carrying handles either end of the canoe and 2 Cheery Wood braces across the mid of the Prospector 14. The perfectly placed seating position not only enables the paddler to canoe paddle either seated, kneeling or part kneeling heeling the Prospector over should the paddlers skill levels permit but also allows for the Prospector 14 to be paddled with a kayak paddle from an upright seating position. Paddling this solo canoe with a kayak paddle in the style of a pack boat is perfect for tripping and gives the canoe a really great feel, which is only enhanced when a sit back style backrest is used with it.
Swift Canoes offer a range of brilliant lightweight materials and trim options. Kevlar Fusion is the most popular material in their range of exquisite laminate canoes. It offers the best strength to weight ratio of any laminate canoe material. Kevlar Fusion canoes are made with a urethane resin system for top durability and longevity along with a thin layer of exterior gel coat. The hull is constructed of an exterior layer of polyester as well as S-Glass and Kevlar cloth layers sandwiching a durable foam cored ribbing system. The laminate fused together with a high impact and flexible urethane acrylate resin system injected during high pressure infusion process produces an optimal dispersion and laminate consistency. Based on a laminate material construction Kevlar Fusion is a popular material as it offers great abrasion and impact resistance. Swift Canoes have now developed a UV shield that they use on all their current hulls for even better protection and added levels of scratch resistance. This UV shield helps to reduce the impact of the sun/uv on the Swift canoes laminates as well as allowing them to reduce the overall canoe weight slightly too. The UV shield adds some scratch resistance to the hull, meaning while scratches will initially still be visible, after some 303 aerospace protectant being applied to the hull, scratches are much less visible - if visible at all. Scratches are far less of a concern on a Swift Canoe anyway due to them being impregnated with the resin meaning the laminate material of a Swift hull is never exposed and doesn't require repair unlike other brands using laminates. Don't forget as with any laminate boat, a single application of 303 aerospace protectant will only last for a couple of trips. These Swift Canoes can be finished in some stunning finishes giving them a real vibrant exterior look especially with a 2 tone hull.
With a canoe like the Prospector 14 made off a superbly lightweight Kevlar Fusion laminate, a trim level that looks as good and is also light and tough is key. The Carbon Kevlar Trim not only makes a Swift Canoes Prospector 14 one of the lightest Solo Canoes on the market, but also using their unique manufacture process enables them to infuse the canoe hull and gunwales as one part by making a bond between the hull and trim. This stunning looking Carbon Kevlar trim is maintenance free meaning this easy to move both on and off the water.
