Old Town Discovery
The Old Town Discovery 158 & 169 are potentially the most well known Open Canoes and for good reason. Most paddlers will have paddled a Discovery at some point, be it at a club or hire / activity centre. Thanks to the Discovery 158 & 169s 3 layer Polyethylene construction and the robust, durable build quality these canoes can handle pretty much anything you throw at it.The hull shape having a shallow arch flattening towards the middle offers superb stability and tracking on the water, while the moderate rocker gives an agile feel.
The forgiving nature and predictable on the water feel makes the Old Town Discovery series feel safe and reliable for tandem paddling, while at the same time giving that responsive and agile performance. Fitted as standard with 2 wood webbed seat for a comfortable day of paddling, an ash wood carrying yoke and thwart as well as front and rear deck end plate style carrying handles. The internal space and carry capacity means that if you want to use the Discovery 158 as a family touring canoe for weekend trips this is no problem. If you need more space for either more paddlers or more kit to be carried over longer distances then the Discovery 169 is perfect.
Either the Discovery 158 or Discovery 169 is ideal for touring the Norfolk Broads, these open canoes will allow you to develop your paddling skills as your experience grows. Paddlers skill level permitting the discovery range can also handle a little bit of moving water as the hull offers enough manoeuvrability and performance to negotiate some smaller whitewaters.
The Old Town Discovery 158 & 169 is available in the Outfitter Spec with bow and stern blow moulded plastic seats which can take a backrest. These are ideal for hire centres, rental fleets, activity centres, clubs and schools or those looking for a tough, stable canoe with a backrest.
