The Old Town Sportsman Salty 120 PDL is a performance built 12ft pedal drive sit on top kayak. Ideal for using on a range of waters from lakes & broads to rivers & coastal water, the Sportsman Salty can deal with almost anything. At only 12ft this kayak uses an upswept bow to give a better push through in waves, chop and light sea swells.
Using Old Towns PDL pedal drive system which is covered by an industry's first-in-class 5 year warranty, meaning this drive is not only fast but reliable too. The low maintenance PDL drive is propeller driven and offers instant forwards or reverse thrust, with no gear changing required. Old Town have used their patented easy-docking system which gives quick and simply deployment or retraction along with an easy to use drive lock to keep the PDL in place. A handy flip-up small storage hatch on the PDL drive enables smaller items to be stowed in easy reach, this can also act as buoyancy for the drive should it end up in the water on its own. The left of the seating position houses the rudder steering control, while the right hand side houses the up haul and deployment handle.
Using the superbly comfortable Element Seating System the Sportsman Salty will keep almost everyone comfortable out on the water for a good days pedaling or kayak fishing. Old Town have not only made the seating system ergonomically friendly, but by constructing the full seat from mesh it drains well and is superbly ventilated. The backrest of the Element Seating System has lumbar support as well as both an adjustable recline angle & easily adjust built in shuttle track to accommodate different leg lengths. The underside of the seat comes with a mesh pocket which allows for a slim tackle box to be kept close to hand. To the rear of the kayak under the seat, Old Town have added a rectangle twist lock storage hatch which is perfect for running electronics or just as an additional internal storage area.
All around the seated position of the Sportsman Salty 120 PDL has been well kitted out for fishing, 2 rear facing flush mount rod holders are ideally placed for trolling, while 1 forward mounted flush rod holder is perfectly placed for landing fish or changing lures. A cup holder allows the paddler to take their favourite drink out with them and keep it close at hand in a safe location. The rear tank well has been designed with the ability to take a fishing crate or cooler box with over bungee's to keep it secure. A well sized front tank well is great for additional storage or if you want to take a dog out on the water with you. The front tank well also uses the scupper hole to run cables from the universal transducer mounting system which makes for quicker installation of your fishfinder. Either side of the front of the cockpit are 2 x 18" accessory tracks to make for simple mounting of any other rod holders or fishfinder head units you may want to place. Finally to the front of the seated position is an EVA foam stand up pad for those feeling adventurous enough to try their hand at stand up casting.
While like most pedal drive kayaks the Old Town Sportsman Salty is not the lightest of pedal drive kayaks, coming in fully rigged with seat and PDL drive at 47.2kgs, using a Trolley to move around over distance will makes life easier. When you strip the Sportsman Salty PDL 120 down to the hull it allows the loading weight to come down significantly to 35.8kgs, this makes car topping, loading and unloading much more manageable with the right technique or helper. Solid side carry handles as well as front and rear solid carry handles really aid in moving this PDL sit on top.
